Unilever United States Inc. named in class action lawsuit

The class action lawsuit alleges that Unilever defrauded consumers by marketing its fruit drinks using misleading information about the drinks’ health benefits. The lawsuit accuses the defendant of falsely claiming that its “SuperShots” fruit drinks help consumers control blood pressure and flush sodium from their bodies.

Plaintiff claims that Unilever falsely says the fruit drinks lower blood pressure because the product is consistent with the dietary approaches to stop hypertension (DASH) diet. A study of the DASH diet, whereby people ate a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and low-fat dairy products while getting 4,700 milligrams of potassium daily, resulted in lower blood pressure readings, Plaintiff alleges that the amount of potassium needed to reach the study’s findings would require people to consume 12 SuperShots drinks per day.
