NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation opens investigation of 2011-2012 Ford F-150 full-size pickup trucks equipped with 3.5L GTDI engine over loss of brake power assist

Ford Motor

The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has identified 32 complaints alleging electric vacuum assist pump failures resulting in loss of brake power assist and increased brake pedal effort in model year (MY) 2011-2012 Ford F-150 full-size pickup trucks equipped with 3.5L GTDI engine. None of the complaints reported any warning indicators to alert the driver of brake power assist loss or the potential of increased stopping distance. Two reports alleged crashes due to increased brake pedal effort required to stop or slow the vehicle. The complaints show an apparent increasing trend, with approximately 60 percent of complaints received within the past nine months. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the cause, scope and frequency of the alleged defect.

My 2012 ford edge has had the PTU seal replaced 3 times in the last month. My truck has actually had to be towed to the shop two of the 3 times. As soon as I drive a far distance all the fluid leaks and the transmission stops going. This is completely ridiculous.

I have 2012 F-150 with vacuum pump failing and no part coming from Ford. The dealer service rep says last pump ordered took 4 months to arrive. Mine is on order with no expected time of delivery. This keeps me from pulling trailer this summer on numerous trips we hoped to take. I would love to join a class-action suit against Ford for this lack of response to an identified problem that puts drivers in danger and otherwise stops planned use of the vehicle.

I have a 2007 Lincoln MKX AWD it started dripping oil in my garage. I took it to the Ford garage they told me the PTU seal is leaking they want $1800.00 to replace this is supposed to be a sealed unit it doesn't have a plug to add oil or drain there should be a recall on this!!!
