2013 Porsche Cayenne Turbo transfer case failure

Issue Status: Discussion

Transfer Case failure at 32,000 miles two months out of warranty. Several other known Porsche Cayennes have had this failure at approximately 30,000 miles. Porsche is aware of the numerous failures and has redisigned the transfer case. However they still charge $3000-$4000 to repair

I have Caynne 2013 that had transfer case faulty on 11/2015 (@32K miles) and Porsche dealer replaced it as still be under warranty. Today , same symptom noticed and I brought my car to the shop to run diagnostics and they told me the transfer case faulty again at 59K miles. The replacement will cost ~$5.6 if done at dealer because it's out of manufacturing warranty.

I have a 2011 Cayenne S tiptronic, recently noticed what felt like a misfire after replacing all 8 coil packs and plugs all O.E.M. Finding that this issue is not miss firing, its the transfer case bucking and locking up on hard left / right turns in parking lot. We bought this as a Porsche Certified vehicle. Now only 5k miles out of warranty. I’m S.O.L. 105,000 mi.

2011 Cayenne Turbo- 43,000 miles- told the transfer case needs replacing. Bought the car 5 weeks prior with a full Porsche dealership 150 point inspection. At the time of the inspection they had a list of repairs about $3500 long and we paid to have all of them repaired and then were given a clean bill of health. 5 weeks later and are told transfer case needs to be replaced at an expense of $5400 + tax. No warranty. Even though we had the CPO inspection performed by the Porsche dealer we bought the car from a different dealer so CPO warranty could not be offered. We were going to get a warranty for it anyway, but hadn't yet made the appointment to sit down with the advisor at Porsche-- didn't realize 5 weeks after purchase would be too late.

This just gets better! I have three of the 2011 Cayenne S. The first transfer case failed at 50,000 miles 5/2015 and Porsche picked up $1,700 cost of repair. The second failed at 50,000 11/2017 and after a call directly to Porsche they provided a voucher for $500. and the car has not been repaired. The third Cayenne now has 42,000 miles and is working OK. I have read that these failures are primarily caused by contaminated fluid in the transfer case.

My Porsche Cayenne has been driven less than 40,000 miles, and felt the transmission was not smooth. Went to Porsche dealer and they told me the transfer case has failed or gears worn out. The replacement bills is $4,500. Porsche, you must be kidding, how can a mechanical transfer case fails in less than 40,000 miles. I told the Porsche dealer service guy. I had been driving for over forty years with ten plus cars which all were driven over 120,000 miles in California, never ever had any problems with transfer mechanical worn out and fail, let alone in less than 40,000 miles for this Porsche Cayenne. Anyone can tell me if there are pending lawsuits against Porsche on this situation? Please advice

My wife and I both own 2016 Porsche Cayenne, the base model. My transfer case failed just shy of 19,000 miles and hers just above 23,000. Mine is in process of repair/replacement with a replacement transfer case coming in from Germany according to the dealer. My wife's car is at the front end of the process and I assume the same thing will happen. My oldest daughter drives a 2010 Cayenne that I own and so far so good, but with all the problems I'm looking to get rid of it soon. Both of the 2016's will go down the road before the warranty expires for sure. With as widespread as the problem appears from my online reading I can see that it could have a impact on resale value., I guess we'll find out.

Same here. 2016 Porsche Cayenne Turbo... Transfer case failed at 15,000 miles, so they rebuilt it, and it was fixed, for a while. Now it's happening again at 30,000 miles. This time they are replacing with a new transfer case. It's covered under warranty for now, but pretty soon it's going to be a $6,000 repair, every 15,000 miles as soon as the car is not in warranty anymore.

My 2013 Porsche Cayenne is in need of a transfer case repair or replacement. I went to the dealership and requested a goodwill claim. I was denied the good will discount. As from what I know they pay up to half the repair. With that being said the decision is based on over 10 questions they ask you like if your the original owner, do you have a complete porsche dealer repair history and how many Porsche's do you own.. I believe if you have to have a goodwill program in the first place for these transfer cases its enough of an admission that there is a wide spread problem. With that and this thread above I am certain there should be a class action lawsuit. The question is whom is going to convince a law firm to take it on?

2014 Cayenne Platinum 47k. Owned car for 4 months so it is out of warranty by 4 months, 7k miles. Bad transfer case $4700 repair. Porsche is giving 80% goodwill after dealer submitted the paperwork. Everyone should file a complaint with The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. They are the ones that can force a recall.
