Hyundai named in class action lawsuit over engine defect

Hyundai Motors

This is a class action on behalf of current or former owners and/or lessees of a 2011 – 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a 1.6- liter turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 4-cylinder engine.

As alleged, each Subject Vehicle is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbo Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) 4-cylinder engine. Upon information and belief, under normal use and with proper maintenance, the engines in Subject Vehicles suffer from inadequate engine oil lubrication, which causes the engines and their subject components to wear prematurely and ultimately cause catastrophic engine failure.

The connecting rod bearings within Subject Vehicles additionally suffer from failure caused by metal debris circulating within the engine via the engine oil. The oil contamination and inadequate engine lubrication cause the connecting rod bearings to break and release even more metal debris into the engine oil. Consequently, contaminated oil begins to recirculate throughout the engine, causing further engine damage and eventual catastrophic engine failure.

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Over the last year I have had several issues with the car stalling and it seizing up. My car once started flashing all the lights in the car and completely shut down , not able to push the gas pedal at all, while I was on the interstate luckily I was near an exit and able to roll into a parking lot. I had to replace the radiator. Now my car has overheated and I’m told I’m needing to replace the engine less than 6 months later. Less than 200000 miles. Do I have a case?

I bought a 2012 Hyundai Sonata In August of 2016 with 53K miles on it from a used car dealer unaware of any engine recall on the Theta 2 engines. Drove with regular synthetic oil changes, just did a tune up of plugs, transmission fluid change. On Dec 16 2018 with no warning the car engine cuts off and had to coast to the side of the road left stranded. I called AAA for a tow to the their shop and the mechanic there informed me the following day that the engine was going to need to be replaced due to what appeared to be a defect clogging the oil pump resulting in engine failure. I contacted the Fredericksburg dealership and the only option was given was to either replace the engine for $6,000 or buy a 3rd part one for $5,000 labor not included on either. I had to buy a used Theta 2 engine from a salvage yard with 37K miles cost was $2050.00 and labor was $450.00. Jasper does not even refurbish these engines apparently because the damage is too extensive so basically I their are no options for dealing with this issues other than forking out 6 grand plus on a car only booked at $4500.00. This is just not acceptable as a consumer considering I bought the car because I was under the belief that their engines and transmissions were reliable.

I purchased a brand new Hyundai Santa Fe 2013 black colored after approximately a year or so I realized the black Santa Fe and Texas heat was a smart color in the Tx heat so Roger Beasley Dealership convinced me to upgrade to 2014 fully loaded with moonroof, lifetime Siriusxm(deceived)was never told after 4 years subscription stopped!I had replaced tires as I had 4 blowouts so approximately under 40,000 miles.Roger Beasley refused to refund any cost of tires. My drivers side airbag light has been on for@least 2 years. When I go into Roger Beasley in New Braunfels Tx argue with me tells me I’m not original owner I called them about A/C was out before 60,000 miles! My husband is deceased vet and I’m a disabled nurse. I was told the last time I went in I’d have to take it to Beasley In Kyle Tx over a hour away! When I went in person all they want to do is sell me a new suv and I refuse to.So they have not fixed A/C and I won’t be sucked in to purchase a new 1 vehicle thru them they refuse to make good on any warranty I REFUSE to no 1 is interested in helping between the 2 Beasley Motors. In December I had to buy a new battery!I do not feel comfortable walking into any of their dealerships.I also call them to see if I have any outstanding recalls and they tell me NO
