Sprint Nextel Corp. Agreed to pay $8.7 million to settle claims alleging it denied workers overtime compensation. The settlement fund provides $6,446,000 for a subclass of Kansas Sprint employees, $2 million for a subclass of California Sprint employees and $325,000 for a subclass of New York Sprint employees.
The lawsuit alleged that the defendants violated the FLSA by failing to adequately compensate nonexempt customer specialist employees at Sprint's call center facilities nationwide.
Under the terms of the agreement, class members shall receive cash payments based on the total number of weeks worked for the defendants during the class period in which overtime was worked based on adding a uniform amount of time worked as reflected in Sprint's employment records; amount of compensation earned; and status as an opt-in plaintiff as the date of the approval of the settlement.
