Case Details for "Dell Inc."

Dell settles discrimination class action
Dell Inc. agreed to pay $9.1 million agreement to settle class action claims that the company discriminated against female employees. $4.5 million would be dedicated to back pay for a class of current and former female Dell employees. An additional $3.5 million will be used to establish a pay-equity fund for current female employees in certain job grades covered by the lawsuit.
The settlement provides that class members will receive a minimum of $250 with additional funds to be distributed using a formula based on the amount of time a class member was employed by Dell and the employee's pay grade at the time.
The agreement establishes that Dell will hire an expert industrial psychologist to conduct a review of the company's employment practices and a labor economist/statistician to conduct a pay equity analysis. The labor economist will issue a report whereby Dell will use the pay equity fund to make adjustments in female workers' compensation.
