Investigation of a HD Cables sold as "3D HDMI Cable or an HDMI 1.4 Cable
According to a recent report by Consumer Reports, there is no such thing as either a "3D HDMI Cable" or an HDMI 1.4 cable," as any standard high-speed cable (10.2Gbps) is sufficient for handling 3D signals.
This hasn't stopped cable vendors from advertising and selling 3D HDMI and HDMI 1.4 cables at inflated prices. According to the organization that controls the trademarked term, confusing spec numbers are being phased out, and vendors are not allowed to make any reference to Version 1.4 of the HDMI specification in any circumstance, yet the marketing of these cables continues.
According to HDMI, Adopters may no longer use HDMI version numbers in the labeling, packaging, or promotion of any cable product. This is effective immediately for any references to the HDMI Specification Version 1.4, and Adopters have a one-year grace period for removing references to earlier versions of the HDMI specification when describing their cables.
New labeling is supposed to use one of five new logos: HDMI Standard, HDMI High Speed, HDMI Standard with Ethernet, HDMI High Speed with Ethernet, and HDMI Standard Automotive.
