The lawsuit names Ticketmaster Entertainment Inc. and its subsidiary Ticketsnow.com Inc. Alleging that the former routinely diverts online customers to the higher priced Ticketsnow.com in an effourt to secure higher ticket prices. The suit was filed nearly three months after Ticketmaster reached a settlement with the New Jersey attorney general. The settlement resolved more than 2,000 consumer complaints.
Plaintiffs claim that within minutes after tickets go on sale, Ticketmaster routinely claims that the event is sold out and customers are redirected to Ticketsnow.com, where they pay a higher price than the face value of the ticket. The plaintiffs claim that tickets were routinely marked up hundreds of dollars for events that had yet to sell out. The plaintiffs claim that Ticketmaster gets a 15 percent cut from tickets that are purchased on Ticketsnow.com. The practice enables Ticketmaster to earn revenue by selling the tickets twice, the plaintiffs claim.
